Best of all, no underwriting is required for companies with less than 50 employees. For companies with more than 50 employees, all that is required is a census with the number of male and female employees and salary information, along with the name and address of the employer. In today’s challenging economy, employees affected by a disability usually find it difficult to make ends meet, especially with the New York state-mandated benefit of 50 percent to $170. These enriched programs allow employers to have the option of offering their employees a benefit that provides more income if they incur a short-term disability. Employers can thus elect to cover their employees for up to 52 weeks, versus the standard 26 weeks, and provide a 50 or 60 percent benefit replacement with maximums of $200 to $850 weekly.
